Four die on road in Kohat

KOHAT, Feb 27: Three Afghans nationals including a boy were killed as a Kohat-bound pickup collided head-on with a truck on the Indus Highway, police said.

The accident was reported in Qasimkhel area of Darra Adamkhel. Asif Shah, Habibullah and the unidentified boy died in the accident. An injured Amir Mohammad was shifted to a local hospital. A man was killed and seven passengers including two women were injured in another accident on Rawalpindi road. A flying coaster coming to Kohat from Attock turned upside down near Gumbat in Kohat as a result Abdul Samad died on the spot. —

HANGU: A driver was killed and two students sustained injuries when unknown persons opened fire at a school van in Hangu. The attackers also kidnapped six students.

Police sources said a school van travelling from Hangu to Kohat when unidentified persons opened fire at van near Merobik Banda area killing driver Asghar Ali on the spot and injuring two students Zafar and Farhan.

Eyewitnesses said the attackers also abducted six students. The body and injured were shifted to Civil Hospital. Heavy police contingents launched search operation for the recovery of the children.

Roadside bomb kills two in Kohat

KOHAT: A roadside bomb killed two civilians on Rawalpindi Road near Kohat on Tuesday.

The police said that miscreants had planted a 15-kg bomb on Rawalpindi Road in Togh Bagh area, on the outskirts of Kohat to target a police van. However, the bomb exploded after the van had passed from the blast’s place.

Meanwhile, two motorcyclists fell victims to the attack.

One of the victims, Amir Bashir, was son of Union Council Nazim Haji Bashir Khan.

Taliban blow up five houses in Darra Adam Khel


PESHAWAR: Suspected Taliban blew up five houses in Adezai village bordering the semi-tribal Darra Adam Khel early on Monday, police said.

An official of the Mattani police station told Daily Times that the suspected Taliban had planted explosives near the houses. Three vehicles were also damaged in the explosion. No casualties were reported, he said, adding that a case had been registered.

KOHAT: Unknown persons late Monday night blew up Government High School for Boys, Sunnikhel, Darra Adamkhel — the ninth institute that was destroyed in the area.

Sources said five bombs were planted to the school walls that completely reduced the building into rubble.Girls’ education was stopped in the area as all the schools whether primary or high were blown up by the unknown militants in the gun-manufacturing town of Darra. Similarly, in the Tor Chappar area of Darra Adamkhel no boys or girls school at the moment was opened for the students.

Those who could afford had either sent their children to Kohat or Peshawar for studies while many coming from the poor families had stopped their education, sources said. The district coordination officer Siraj Ahmad Khan, when contacted said the government was trying its level best to reopen the schools in the FR Kohat area, including Darra Adamkhel.

Meanwhile, Taliban sources denied blowing of the schools in Darra Adamkhel and said enemies of Pakistan could be behind such incidents as they were not against the education.

Peace deal would be succeeded, says Maulana Sufi

SWAT: The chief of Tahrik-e-Nifaz Shariat Muhammadi (TNSM) Maulana Sufi Muhammad said Swat peace deal would be succeeded and urged the people to return back to their homes.Talking to media with TNSM spokesman Amir Izzat Khan, Maulana Sufi said stepwise changes would be occurred in Swat and urged those who left the area to return back to their homes.He asked Tahrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) not to interfere in administrative tasks and stop exhibiting arms. He also urged TTP to end guerrilla activities. Maulana Sufi said the peace would be restored through Sharia system. Sufi sees involvement of third party in the killing of Geo News and The News correspondent Musa Khankhel and said would try to arrest the killer of Musa Khan.The government had signed a deal with militants in Swat for reaching a peace agreement. This deal was largely welcomed in Swat.
