Kohat bar rejects PBC decision on polls

Source: Dawn

The district bar has rejected the decision of the Provincial Bar Council declaring elections in Kohat null and void.

The district bar at its general body meeting presided over by Advocate Mohammad Riaz on Saturday took strong exception to the order of the executive committee of the Provincial Bar Council (PBC) that had termed the Kohat bar polls illegal.

The participants through unanimously passed resolutions also termed the PBC decision as malafide.

The general body rejected the voters list issued by the bar council alleging that it included the names of such people who were not even members of the district bar.

They said that the Kohat bar polls were held on the basis of a genuine voters’ list and the PBC had no jurisdiction to challenge it.

The members said that they would approach the highest forums against the PBC decision.

The participants asked the president of the Kohat Bar Association and his cabinet to continue its routine functions.

Advocate Riaz said that the general body of the Kohat bar had demanded transparent audit of the accounts of the PBC and suspension of the membership of Advocate Jalaluddin Khan who had been meddling in the district bar affairs illegally.

The Kohat bar also restricted the entry of Advocate Waseem Khan on the premises of the courts and warned him of serious consequences if he violated the decision.

The copies of the resolutions adopted at the meeting were sent to the chief justices of the Supreme Court of Pakistan and the Peshawar High Court, chairmen of Pakistan and Peshawar Bar Councils as well as district and sessions judge, Kohat.
