Commissioner Khalid Khan Umerzai on Thursday urged the clerics and elders from Hangu district to set aside all political and sectarian differences for brining stability to the restive war-torn region.
He was speaking to a jirga of Sunni supreme council and elders belonging to Hangu district here at his office. He asked them to fully enforce the joint peace agreement reached between both the sects last year.
Mr Umerzai said that worsening law and order situation in any part would have negative impacts for the whole country. He said that it was the responsibility of clerics and elders to preach harmony and shun their differences for creation of peaceful environment for the coming generations.
He said that solution of all religious and tribal issues was possible through jirga system which needed to be strengthened. The commissioner requested the clerics and elders to take him into confidence concerning their reservations, if any, about the Muharram processions` routes and security so that everything could be amicably solved.
They also reviewed security arrangements for Muharram in the whole region in the aftermath of the Wednesday`s suicide blast in Kohat and felt the need for increased joint patrolling in sensitive parts of Kohat and Hangu districts.
The commissioner directed the Hangu administration to immediately ban the entry of Afghan refugees in the city limits and search all vehicles and people travelling between Orakzai Agency and Hangu.

Reconstruction of road in oil-rich Shakardarra urged
Source The Dawn
The elders and transporters of oil and gas-rich Shakardarra town here have demanded early reconstruction and widening of Karrappa road, which has been badly damaged by heavy oil-carrying vehicles.
Speaking at a protest meeting of transporters here on Thursday, a local leader of Jamaat-i-Islami, Asghar Khattak, said that the government was earning billions of rupees from the oil and gas resources of Shakardarra town, but it along with the Oil and Gas Development Company had been ignoring this area in development projects.
He regretted that even potable water was not available in Shakardarra. He demanded of the government to immediately start reconstruction of the Shakardarra-Karrappa road and give this inter-provincial road a status of national highway.
He claimed that the road was being ruined by heavy vehicles transporting 13,000 barrels of oil daily to Punjab since 2003-2004.
FUNDS FOR FR KOHAT: The government will allocate huge funds for Frontier Region of Kohat in the 2010-2011 budget for developing this neglected tribal area, said Kohat DCO Shahidullah Khan, who also holds the additional charge of political agent of this region.
Mr Khan was chairing a meeting here to finalise spots for various development schemes.
He said that the government wanted to bring the FR Kohat at par with other developed tribal areas. Representatives of line departments were also present at the meeting.
He directed the officials to start work on the development projects sanctioned in the communication, agriculture, health, literacy and irrigation sectors so that tribesmen could benefit from them.
LEAVES BANNED: The Kohat divisional administration has put a ban on leaves of staff of all government departments from 5th to 11th of Muharramul Harram.
According to a notification on Thursday, Commissioner Kohat Khalid Khan Umerzai also ordered for establishment of five control rooms in Kohat, Hangu, Orakzai Agency and Kurram Agency to monitor law and order situation during Muharram.

Ulema assure authorities of cooperation
POSTED IN NEWS
Ulema from various schools of religious thought Thursday assured the district administration and police of their support in peaceful observance of Muharramul Haram.
Deputy Inspector General of Police Kohat Region Abdullah Khan urged the leaders of Shia and Sunni schools of religious thoughts to display solidarity and brotherhood to thwart the sinister designs of enemies who were out to create rift between the two sects.
The police officer stated this during separate meetings with the leaders of the two sects held at Police Lines in Kohat. Although, he claimed, the district administration had made foolproof security arrangements for the month, still the leaders and religious scholars should play their role in maintaining peace during Muharram and avoiding any untoward incident.
Among others, District Police Officer Kohat Dilawar Khan Bangash, District Naib Nazim Arif Muhammad, Deputy Superintendent of Police City Abdul Qayyum, Chairman Sunni Supreme Council Javed Ibrahim Paracha, Ali Shah and Abdul Saboor attended the meetings.
