Seven die in Kohat road accident

At least seven people including two women died and 10 others got injured when their van and a loaded truck collided here at Gumbat area on Friday.
According to details, a passengers van (LES-2680) was on its way to Rawalpindi from Kohat when it collided with a truck (DIK-2125) on the Kohat-Rawalpindi Road here at Gumbat area of Kohat district. Seven persons died and 10 others sustained injuries. The injured were shifted to District Headquarters Hospital Kohat and Peshawar.
Two of the dead were identified as Zaman, driver, and Jehangir Khan. The cause of the accident was unknown till filing of this report. Rescue teams rushed to site following the incident and shifted the injured. Some of the injured are reportedly to be in critical condition. The truck driver has been arrested by police and is being interrogated.

Security men injured in road accident

Six security personnel were injured when their vehicle met with an accident while on way to Kohat from North Waziristan, Geo News reported Tuesday.

According to the sources, the security forces’ vehicle turned turtle on Kohat-Karak Highway when the personnel were on their way to Kohat from North Waziristan. As a result of accident, six troops sustained injuries who were shifted to a hospital in Kohat.

Hospital sources told that one of the security man is in critical condition.

The cause of the accident couldn’t be ascertained yet, however, the security forces initiated investigation.

Five persons were killed and 10 others sustained injuries in a road accident near Friendship Tunnel on Friday.

Police said the passenger bus was heading to Hangu from Peshawar when it collided with a truck near Kohat Tunnel on Indus Highway. Five persons were killed on the spot and 10 others were wounded, they added.

The dead were identified as Nawaz Ali, Iqbal Hussain, Zulfiqar Hussain, Noor Sahib and Muhammad Waseem who were killed on the spot while the injured included Shamsur Rehman, Farooq, Abdul Basit, Muhammad Shakeel, Malbaz Khan, Aqil Badshah, Faisal, Muhammadullah, Sherbaz and Tariq Khan.

They were rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital in Kohat where condition of some of the injured was stated to be critical.

Two persons, including driver, were killed and 10 others sustained injured in a road accident on Hangu Road on Wednesday, sources said. The sources said that a speeding passenger coach (5140) was heading to Kohat from Hangu when it collided with a truck (IOT-3302) parked on roadside near Muhammadzai Flour Mills. Two persons identified as Muhammad Rasool Jan and coach driver Abdur Rasheed killed while Sahira Bibi, Abdul Basit, Nabi Rehman, Umair Abbas, Nazim, Amjad Ali Shah, Gul Muhammad, Amanullah, Abdur Rehman and Din Khaliq were injured. They were shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital in Kohat.

A carpenter was killed and two others were injured when roof of his shop fell on them here on Wednesday.

Police said that the roof collapse incident occurred in Jawaki Banda on Kohat-Hangu road and as a result the carpenter, Taza Gul, was buried alive under it.

His two friends, including Badshah Khan and Hameed Khan, were injured in the incident. They were taken to DHQ hospital, Kohat, where their condition was reported to be stable.

Two persons were killed when two trailers collided on Indus Highway the other day.

The trailers were coming to Kohat from Bannu when one of them loaded with cement bags hit the other from behind in Lachi town.

The deceased were named as Sajjad and Shahid.

The police said they impounded the vehicles after registering a case.

Five people were killed and 16 injured in a road accident in Darra Adamkhel on Sunday.

According to deputy administrator’s office for FR Kohat here, a pick-up van (No 8887) and a coaster (No 5656) collided on the Indus Highway, resulting in instant death of a boy, Tariq. Four other people who died on way to hospital included Ehsanullah and Arsalan, residents of Charsadda; and Ziarat Khan and Badshah of Khyber Agency.

Condition of two of the injured is stated to be critical. The injured were taken to Zarghunkhel basic health unit from where they all were referred to Lady Reading Hospital, Peshawar.

Due to shortage of doctors and first-aid equipment wounds of none of the injured could be stitched in Darra Adamkhel.

An official of the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) was injured and two others along with a woman were arrested during a raid on a house at the Railway Quarters in the Kohat city on Friday, sources said.

The sources said the Cantonment Police were tipped off that some men along with a woman were present at a house in the Railway Colony and were indulging in objectionable activities. The police raided the house and asked the group to surrender but the accused opened fire on the cops.

The police returned the fire and one of the men identified as Sanaullah Marwat and stated to be a PAF official was injured. The police arrested his two colleagues, Ahmed Saeed and Muhammad Akram, along with a young woman.

The injured man was shifted to the Combined Military Hospital in Kohat in a critical condition. The police registered case against the accused under sections 324, 353 and 109.The accused, Sanaullah Marwat, who hails from Harama Tala village in Frontier Region Lakki Marwat was also arrested along with one Amir Rasheed Bangash, belonging to Hangu, in a carjacking case at a village near Manjiwala Link Road on August 12, 2012. He was later freed on bail.

Two people died in separate road mishapes in Kohat on Monday, police said.
The first incident occurred near Tehsil Lachi in Chongi area when a speedy tanker bearing Registration no 2754 hit a motor cycle. As a result a local identified as Azhar khan son of Muhammad Ilyas died on the spot while police arrested the tanker driver and lodged FIR against him.
The second misshape took place in the jurisdiction of Jurma Police Station on Doda Road when a speedy passenger Coach hit an aged man known as Rizwan Ullah who breathed his last on the spot.
Police took the coach in its custody and registered report of the incident.

Three people were killed when a truck collided with a motorcycle on Indus Highway in Gandyali area of Kohat on Wednesday.

Gambat police official Zafarullah Khan said two brothers Ali Akbar and Sadiq Akbar were travelling on a motorcycle along with their cousin Syed Nawaz when a speeding truck heading to Kohat city hit them.

The unidentified truck driver escaped while the injured died on the way to hospital.

In another road accident, a passenger van heading to Hangu from Peshawar flipped due to over speeding on Hangu Road, injuring four passengers.

Cantonment police official Amjid Hussain said the van turned on its side near the Muhammadzai area and the injured passengers were taken to Kohat Divisional Hospital. They were administered first aid and later discharged.

Separate cases have been filed against the truck and van driver.

At least six people were injured when a passenger van plunged into a pit by the roadside in Jozara on the border of Kohat and Hangu districts, on Thursday.

Mujahid Khan, in charge of the Abdul Ali Indus Highway check post, said a van loaded with passengers en route to Peshawar from Thal tehsil slipped into the pit around 10:00am, injuring six persons severely.

The official added a pedestrian crossing the road caused the driver to swerve. The pedestrian fled from the scene while police and residents of the area reached the site to initiate rescue work.

Three of the injured were shifted to Headquarters Hospital in Hangu, while those who were critically injured were referred to Peshawar.

A case was filed against the unidentified pedestrian and an investigation is underway.

 At least five people were died and 13 others sustained serious injuries when a passenger coach collided with a truck near Kohat tunnel on Indus High Way on Sunday, police and local of the area said.
Eye witness told that a passengers flying coach was en route Peshawar from Kohat when it collided with a truck coming from opposite side near friendship tunnel of Kohat on Indus High Way. 
As result, five people including driver of the coach and a minor girl were died and 13 others injuries. 
Those who died were identified as Habib Ullah, Numan, Najma, Sher Hassan and Niamat Ullah Khan while the wounded persons included Obaid Ullah son of Niaz Bad Shah, Abdur Rehman Sattar Jand, Noor Rehman son of Mir Aslam, Bostan son of Gulistan, Fakhr Uddin son of Mohammad Amin, Sajad Gul son of Hijab Gul, Shah Abdul son of Ashraf Shin Dand, Yasir son of Nazim Khan, Irshad son of Rangin Bad Shah, Izat Ameer Noor Zaman of Peshawar, Amjed Khan son of Ayub and 12 year old girl Saghya daughter of Shahab Ullah. 
The injured persons were rushed to KDA hospital Kohat. Police lodged a case and started probe into the incident. 

ANP MNA among 5 hurt in Kohat road mishap

Five persons including the Awami National Party (ANP) MNA Pir Dilawar Shah sustained injuries in a road mishap near Gulshanabad Chowk here on Saturday, sources said.

The sources said that Pir Dilawar Shah along with his family was on his way home from Islamabad when his van collided with a vehicle near Gulshanabad Chowk on the Rawalpindi Road. Five members of his family including his younger brother Pir Zakir Shah and women and children were injured. They were rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital in Kohat from where two of the injured were referred to a hospital in Peshawar.

Accident keeps Indus Highway blocked for five hours

The Indus Highway remained blocked for five hours after a collision between a trailer and a truck, creating problems for the people travelling between Peshawar and Kohat. Long queues of vehicles were seen on both sides of the road. The commuters found it difficult to get to their destinations.

A person sustained injuries in the collision on the Indus Highway in Darra Adamkhel. Eyewitnesses said the trailer (TLA-449) rammed into the truck (C2313) at Abbas Chowk, leaving its driver, whose name could not be ascertained, injured.

Meanwhile, residents in Darra Adamkhel have asked the authorities to help rebuild the bridges blown up by the militants. They said the destroyed bridges also contributed to the traffic snarls as the people could not take alternative routes in case of the blockage of the Indus Highway due to traffic accidents.

Firecrackers injure three children

Three children received injuries when abandoned firecrackers exploded in Muslimabad area here on Wednesday.

The Bomb Disposal Squad said that a huge quantity of firecrackers was left abandoned at a garbage dump. The children found the firecrackers and started playing with them, they said. They added that the firecrackers exploded and injuring three children.
The injured children included six-year-old Najad Khan, nine-year-old Majid and minor Munsif. They were shifted to women and children hospital, where doctors said they were in stable condition.
Meanwhile, the anti-corruption department caught the assistant director of Kohat Development Authority red-handed while taking bribe on Wednesday.

Five die as truck runs over shoppers

At least five people were killed and several others injured when a 10-wheeler truck ran over them in the main bazaar of Lachi town of Kohat on Friday. The truck also crushed three vehicles.

The truck (TKM-1198) was going to Kohat when the driver lost control over it, first hitting an electricity pole and then running over people who were busy shopping in the bazaar. Five shoppers were killed and several others injured. The giant truck also hit three vehicles, destroying them completely.The accident caused the worst kind of traffic jam on the Indus Highway. A large number of cars, trucks and passenger vehicles were stranded on the road in sweltering heat.
The Lachi police arrested the truck driver, Bakhtawar, resident of Bannu, and impounded the truck.

Teenage sisters killed in house collapse

Two teenage sisters were buried alive and their mother was seriously injured when a house of internally displaced family collapsed in Wuch bazaar area in Hangu on Sunday.
The police media cell here confirmed that the two daughters of Ghani Shah, who had migrated from Orakzai Agency, died when a pillar of a room of their house suddenly collapsed. As a result Sami Bibi and Tarkhela Bibi died on the spot while their mother, Sher Bano, was injured. They were pulled out by volunteers and shifted to district headquarters hospital.
