KOHAT: The brother of the MNA charged in a case of torturing and manhandling doctors presented himself before police for arrest following strike of the medical staff of all the hospitals here on Saturday.
Earlier the doctors of the KDA Divisional Medical Hospital, Women and Children Hospital, private health clinics and paramedics observed complete strike against the alleged manhandling of two doctors by the brother of the MNA, Pir Zakir Shah on Friday night. They alleged that the hujra of the MNA located close to the KDA hospital had become a den of criminals, mostly Afghan refugees, who roam in the area displaying heavy arms.The protest meeting held to condemn the incident was addressed by the president of the Malgari Doctoran, Dr Mohammad Safdar. In his speech, he criticised the administration for not taking any action against the accused and their patronisers. Dr Ibne Ali, Dr Luqman of Pakistan Islamic Doctor’s Association, the victim, Dr Rehman Afridi, and chairman of paramedics association, Haji Shabbir Hussain also spoke against the ‘hooliganism’ of the criminals on the occasion.
The students and staff of the Kohat Institute of Medical Sciences and teachers association of Kohat University of Science and Technology also participated in the strike against the MNA.
Later, in the afternoon the brother of the MNA, Pir Zakir Shah presented himself to the Jungle Khel Police and was sent to the lock up. He was hiding in Islamabad and was sent by his brother MNA Pir Dilwar Shah to surrender to the police

School warned against co-education

KARAK: Taliban have warned the administration of Government High School Khojaki Killay to end the co-education system within a week or face the consequences.
The principal of the school, Nazeer Khan, told reporters here Friday that he had received a letter from the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), Waziristan and Karak chapters, that the co-education in the school was against the teachings and spirit of Islam and that they were fighting against all those who were working against the teachings of Islam.
“End the co-education in the school within one week or face the consequences,” the principal quoted the letter as saying. He said he had apprised the executive district officer (EDO-Education) Muhammad Iqbal about the entire situation and also sent a copy of the letter to DCO Muhammad Ajmal and District Police Officer Sajid Ahmad Khan Mohmand.
At least 150 girls were enrolled in the school, he said, adding that he had called a meeting of parents and briefed them regarding the entire situation. He said he asked them to admit their daughters to girl high schools with the stipulated time.

KOHAT: The Deputy Inspector General of Kohat region police, Mohammad Idrees Khan, reportedly went missing on way to his home town of Mardan from Kohat on Friday morning, a highly-placed source told Dawn.
The DIG, who is said to be a bitter enemy of militants and criminals, had been warned in advance to keep a low profile because of militants’ threat.
According to the source, Idrees Khan had left his official residence in Kohat with a guard in the morning, but had not reached his home in Mardan till late into the night.
His family contacted the Kohat office, but they were told that he had left for home.
The source said that top officials of the provincial police and intelligence agencies had established contacts with his relatives and friends in Peshawar and other cities.

KOHAT, May 5: A security man was injured and a military barrack damaged in a rocket attack in the cantonment area by militants from Darra Adamkhel on Tuesday.
Eyewitnesses and officials said a rocket fired from the mountains of Darra Adamkhel exploded in Pathan Centre inside an army compound, injuring a soldier.
Security forces retaliated with artillery fire on suspected hideouts of militants in the Drara Adamkhel mountains from the Kohat OTS road.
Meanwhile, police launched an operation against militants in areas bordering the tribal belt and arrested 66 suspects on Tuesday.
The operation was launched on the order of Kohat region Deputy Inspector General of Police Mohammad Idrees. The elite police force and commandoes are conducting the operation.

3 shot dead in Kohat

KOHAT: Three persons were shot dead and two injured in separate incidents here Sunday. One Farooq Bangash was allegedly shot dead by Khanwada, Zahidullah and Obaidullah. A passer-by Mir Zaman was also injured in the attack.
In another incident, Haji Mosali Khan and his son were killed by unidentified gunmen near PAF petrol pump when they were on their way home in the car (S-1386). The attackers fled the scene. One Qasim Khan sustained serious injuries in the attack.

KOHAT: Police foiled a kidnap bid by unidentified gunmen near the central jail on Bannu-Peshawar Road on Saturday.
Sources said Anwar Saadat son of Sher Daraz, resident of North Waziristan Agency, was on his way to the market when four unidentified gunmen riding a car picked him near Defence Colony.
After receiving information, police party chased the kidnappers and after exchange of fire the gunmen dumped the victim near the central jail on Bannu-Peshawar Road and sped away.

KOHAT: Two rockets fired by the unidentified miscreants landed near the building of the combined military hospital (CMH) on Saturday. Sources said unidentified miscreants fired two rockets from an undisclosed location, which fell near the building of the CMH, causing no loss of life or property.

Nazim Abducted in Hangu District

Kohat: Local Taliban kidnapped the nazim of Darsamand union council in Hangu district and shifted him to undisclosed place, the district police officer told Dawn on Saturday.
It is important to mention here that local Taliban had detained him last year when he went to hold jirga for the release of some people on the instructions of the administration. Taliban released him after few days.
Hangu District Police Officer Sher Akbar Khan said that Nazim Haji Jalilur Rehman was abducted at gunpoint by unidentified armed persons. He said that relatives of the nazim had so far nominated nobody in the case but police were making efforts to locate him.
