Two die as militant groups clash in Darra

Two militants were killed while four soldiers sustained injures in two separate incidents in Darra Adamkhel Monday, official sources said.
The sources said members of Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), Darra Adamkhel led by Tariq Afridi and pro-government militants led by Momin Afridi exchanged fire with heavy arms in Razakhel village of Akhorwal in Darra Adamkhel in the wee hours of Monday.
Two militants Roaid and Mushtaq of Tariq Afridi group were killed in the firefight. Their bodies were found in the forest of Razakhel. Meanwhile, four soldiers were injured when militants opened fire on security personnel manning a checkpost in Akhorwal area at 5 p.m.
The militants fled the scene after the attack. The security forces launched a search operation to track down the militants in the area while injured were shifted to the Combined Military Hospital in Kohat.

3 boys drown in Kohat

Three teenaged boys, including two brothers, drowned in a pond here, local sources said Wednesday. The sources said the two brothers, Syed Kamran Shah, 12, and Syed Yaseen Shah, 13, residents of Borka village, were swimming in the pond near their home when they drowned in deep water. A cousin of the deceased, Jehanzeb Shah, 14, jumped into the pond to rescue them but he also drowned.

Waterborne diseases on the rise in Kohat

Scores of people, including children and women, were admitted to different hospitals of Kohat division after being affected by conjunctivitis (an infectious eye disease) and other waterborne diseases here, doctors said on Tuesday.
They said that there were no arrangements to drain out stagnant flood and rainwater of Kohat city and its adjoining areas, which had caused the outbreak of eye and water-borne diseases. They said that around 4,900 people were suffering from eye-related diseases while 3,100 affectees of waterborne disease had been admitted to different hospitals.
A child specialist at Children and Women Hospital Kohat Dr Mehar Ali said that conjunctivitis and other waterborne diseases had broken out after the recent floods. He said they were receiving 150 to 200 children affected by such disease on a daily basis. An eye specialist at District Headquarters Hospital Dr Irfanullah said that conjunctivitis had spread very rapidly in the area.

Gas supply to south Punjab suspended

The gas supply to southern Punjab and Shakardarra was suspended due to severe damage caused to the main pipeline at Swerokas area on Monday night, official sources said.
The 12-inch main pipeline supplying gas to southern Punjab through Daud Khel from Gurguri was damaged as a result of a blast when a huge rock fell on it. The police and technical teams rushed to the scene around midnight to ascertain the cause of the blast.
Later the police confirmed that the pipeline had been damaged due to falling of a rock on it and it was not sabotage. The pipeline supplies gas to Mianwali in Punjab and Shakardarra in Kohat district.

Prolonged power outages: Protesters torch Pesco offices, vehicles

In Kohat about 500 armed men, belonging to Nasrat Khel village, blocked Kohat-Hangu Highway while women also blocked Rawalpindi Road and Bannu Road at College Town and Chakar Kot, respectively.
The armed villagers marched towards Kohat city and attacked the sub-divisional rural office of Pesco, situated in Happy valley. They damaged the furniture and gadgets at the office. However, the Pesco officials escaped in time to save their lives.
After ransacking the Pesco office, protesters went back to Nasrat Khel area and burnt a jeep, bearing registration number SNA-4722, to vent their anger. They also resorted to intense firing in the air with automatic weapons which kept police away from them. A man identified as Jasmeen, son of Irshad, was also injured in the firing and taken to hospital.
The protesters said that they were forced by Pesco to stage protest rally as it continued power loadshedding even during Iftar and Sahri timings. They said that they spent the entire night without electricity.
The elders of the village said that Pesco had been keeping power suspended for the last several days without any prior announcement. The protesters blocked the road in sizzling heat at 10:45pm and opened it for traffic at 4:30pm.
Two deputy superintendents of police, Lal Fareed and Abdul Qayyum, along with Pesco superintendent held talks with the elders of the village and convinced them to postpone the protest till Friday.
The elders said that they would meet District Coordination Officer Shahidullah and take a final decision about ending protest after getting assurance from him.
The women also took out to the roads in College Town and Chakar Kot owing to suspension of electricity and scarcity of drinking water in the areas. The women protesters dispersed peacefully after blocking the roads for half an hour.
On the other hand, police arrested Fazal Rehman and Adil and registered a case against them for attacking the Pesco office and making the officials hostages.

4 people killed at Indus Highway at Karak

Four people killed and two injured in accident at Indus Highway near Karak. According to details on Indus Highway near Shaheedan More a Suzuki Carry going to Peshawar collied with a truck going to D I Khan. Due to this accident Muhammad Waqar, Sher Ali and Inamullah resident of Peshawar and one Muhammad Saleem died at the spot. The two critically injured person Abdul Waheed and Ahmed were shifted to hospital for treatment.

Khushalgarh Bridge reopens

The authorities have reopened Khushalgarh Bridge, which connects Kohat with Rawalpindi, for light traffic and train service.
The decision to reopen the bridge was taken after the Railways Division and National Highway Authority gave clearance that it was safe for traffic after level of floodwater receded considerably.
The bridge was closed for all kinds of traffic two days ago for the second time during the last fortnight due to threat by heavy floods in the Indus River.

Three person killed in firing incidents in Lachi Teshsil of Kohat. According to details in Samarai Bala area of Lachi one father and his son were killed by Nabat Khan, Fareed ullah, Roman, Umar Farooq, Gul Saeed and Muhammad Hasan. The victims were Israr Gul and Noor ul Amin while one person Shamsur Rehman was injured. In another incident in Lachi Shamroz Khan, Roshan Hayat, Hasan Hayat and Mashfiq Hayat killed their rival group's Guldar Sher and fled from the scene.
