KARAK: NHA urged to remove piles of gypsum from roadside

KARAK, : The dwellers of different areas in the district including Shaheedan, Jandri, mithakhel and Speena Banda have demanded of the National Highway Authority to remove piles of gypsum from the bank of Indus Highway.

“Huge piles of gypsum have been dumped on roadsides in different busy places which can cause fatal accidents,” elders of the areas Noor Shareen Khan, Nazeer Jan, Aqal Rahman, Israr Ameen, Zahir Jan, Mohammad Maseed Khan, Islam Noor, Bismillah Jan and Isam Gul said in a letter sent to NHA Deputy Director Umer Hayat Khattak.

They said that so far two precious lives had been lost in accidents due to gypsum piles. They said that few individuals had put of the lives of innocent people in danger just to earn few coins.

The said that long trailers and trucks remained parked on the road in long queues creating hurdles for the smooth flow of traffic. They expressed fears that fatal accident would occur owing to the negligence of owners and contractors of gypsum mines.

They added that the dumping of gypsum on roadside created a lot of problems for the people. They demanded of the government and NHA to remove the piles of gypsum from roadside.

NHA deputy director, when contacted, said that he had brought the issue in the notice of mineral department and local government but they said that it did not fall under their jurisdiction.
