160 outlaws held, seven persons freed

KOHAT: Police claimed to have arrested 160 outlaws and secured safe release of seven kidnapped persons in massive drive against the criminals in the district over the last two weeks.

Briefing the mediapersons at his office here on Tuesday, the district police officer (DPO) Delawar Khan Bangash said on the directives of the deputy inspector general of police (DIG) Abdullah Khan, various police parties were constituted to a crackdown on the dens and hideouts of the criminals and suspected persons in Doaba, Balyamina, Tanig Banda, Zargari, Shahukhel and Anarcheena.

He said 106 outlaws including six militants identified as Khayal Munir, Akhtar Munir, Mistar Gul, Bismillah Gul, Miraz Gul and Rafiullah were arrested. The arms recovered included 43 Kalashnikov rifles, 11 Kalakov rifles, 51 shot guns, 45 rifles, two stand guns, two remote-controlled bombs, a rocket launcher, 10 rocket shells, 171 pistols, 61 mortar shells, six handgrenades, three LMG rifles, drugs included 148 kilogram hashish, four kilograms of heroin, two kilograms of opium and 46 bottles liquor.

Police also recovered seven kidnapped persons, including the general manager of Kohat Cement Factory and officials of the Oil and Gas Development Corporation, besides arresting two members of a gang identified as Sajiduddin and Abdul Kareem.
